The news is officially official: the UMass men’s basketball program will be part of the four-team field in the 2024 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase, the Hall announced on Monday.

Joining the Minutemen is two other prestigious New England schools in Providence and Boston College, as well as UMass’ former Atlantic 10 rival Temple.

The Showcase is to be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., starting with semifinal games on Saturday, Nov. 23, followed by the championship game and third-place game on Sunday, Nov. 24. UMass plays Providence on Saturday while Temple and BC tangle in the other semi. The winners then battle it out in the title tilt and the losers meet for third place.

“There should be tremendous enthusiasm about being a part of the Hall of Fame Event at The Mohegan Sun, due to proximity to our campus and the ability to bring in three New England schools in UMass, Providence and Boston College along with an old-time Atlantic 10 rival in Temple,” UMass head coach Frank Martin, who is entering his third season with the Minutemen, said. “It will be awesome to compete against Providence as well as whomever our opponent will be in the following matchup.”

Tickets for the 2024 Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase will go on sale Sept. 6 via Ticketmaster and on sale at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office starting Sept. 7.

Details surrounding the game time and broadcast information will all be released at a later date.

“We are excited to bring the 2024 Hall of Fame Showcase back to Mohegan Sun and feature four exemplary East Coast programs,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. “We look forward to welcoming these teams and their fans to one of the country's premier early-season tournaments.”

Providence College is the closest to Mohegan Sun out of the four schools, as head coach Kim English’s group will travel a little more than 50 miles to compete in the showcase this coming fall.
