Belchertown girls lacrosse senior captains Paige Magner and Maddy LePage combined for 19 points and both celebrated career milestones in a 19-10 home win over Wahconah on Monday.

Magner scored seven times and celebrated her 100th career goal. She also recorded 12 draws. LePage recorded her 100th assist in the midst of a five-goal, seven-assist explosion.

Before the season, head coach Jarrod Lemke singled out the two midfielders as key contributors and role models in the program. Next year, Magner will continue her participation in the National Guard and attend UMass-Lowell. LePage will play soccer at Bentley University.

Boys lacrosse

Northampton 15, Pittsfield 1 – Minti Peterson poured in a game-high six goals to go with an assists, and Jackson Oravec netted a hat trick for the Blue Devils in the lopsided win.

Liam Parr (2G, 1A) and Henry Fallon (6 saves) also keyed Northampton.

Baseball

Mount Greylock 11, Amherst 8 – Aryeh Rubinstein, Neil Cunniffe, and Matt Vassallo each recorded a pair of hits for Amherst, but three runs in the sixth from Mount Greylock broke a 8-8 tie, and neither team scored in the seventh.

Greenfield 6, Easthampton 4 – Easthampton jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the third inning, but Greenfield came back with three runs in the seventh to take the win. Topher Reardon reached base twice with a walk and a single, Chris Gallager reached twice on a single and an error, and Bailey Davis hit a pair of singles.

Chicopee Comp 2, Belchertown 1 – Evan Ferguson struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings for the Orioles, which lost on a seventh-inning walk-off run by the Colts in Chicopee. Carsten Matthews had two hits and an RBI to pace the Belchertown offense.

Northampton 10, Holyoke 9 – Northampton won its first game of the season, but Holyoke nearly came back to win its second of the year. The Blue Devils scored nine runs in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead, but the Purple Knights plated five in the fifth and two in the sixth to bring it back to 10-9. Northampton held Holyoke scoreless in the seventh to hold on and win.

Pioneer 2, Hopkins 0 – Liam Flynn only allowed four hits and two walks across seven innings of nine-strikeout ball, but two unearned runs sunk Hopkins against Pioneer. The Golden Hawks totaled five hits and four walks. Jack Dyjach, Beau Elson and James Fitzgibbons each recorded a hit and a walk.

Frontier 11, Hampshire 7 – The Redhawks and Raiders combined for 20 hits and Frontier scored four times in the sixth inning to seal it. Grayson Loos led Frontier with a 3-for-4 performance along with two RBIs and Nico Fasulo and Jack Conlon each recorded two hits and two runs. Hampshire freshman Vynce Carr hit a home run, a double and a sac fly and ended the afternoon with two RBIs.

Pathfinder 13, Smith Voc 1 – Seven runs in the third were too much for Smith Voc to overcome in a loss to Pathfinder.

Softball

Athol 24, Northampton 11 – Jani Gotay led the Blue Devils with four hits, while Ella Daillie collected three hits and three RBIs in the loss. Northampton led 3-1 until the top of the fourth inning when visiting Athol scored 11 times to take control.

Hopkins 17, Pioneer 1 (5) – Lilly Ellia smacked a home run, while Cassie Dion and Bramucci each had two hits to power the Golden Hawks to a lopsided victory on Monday.

Dion struck out 11 in a dominant pitching outing. 

SICS 15, Smith Academy 0 –  Emma Tisdell doubled and Emilia Neves singled for the Falcons.

South Hadley 8, Longmeadow 2 – Isabella Schaeffer struck out 11 across seven innings of work and Sophia Butler drove in three runs on three hits.

Boys tennis

Belchertown 3, Minnechaug 2 – The Orioles won a marathon, and it came down to the wire – three matches went all three sets and they were the last three matches on the court. In first singles, Trevor Weiss came back from down 4-1 in the third set to tie the match at two points apiece. He won 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2). In second doubles, the last match of the afternoon, Jake Gormely and Mason Pobieglo won 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to clinch the match for Belchertown.

Frontier 3, Pope Francis 2 – Caden Manning won his third singles match 6-2, 6-2, Oliver Brown and Brayden Reipold won 6-2, 6-0 in first doubles, and Noah Nichols and Donovan Vichi won 6-0, 6-3 in second doubles.

Girls tennis

PVCICS 3, Frontier 2 – Singles wins from Eloise Tujela (6-1, 6-0) and Lien Powers-Moran (6-4, 6-0) helped propel the Dragons.

Chelsea Chartier and Kendall Christensen won a three-setter at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) for PVCICS.

Minnechaug 3, Belchertown 2 – The Orioles swept the doubles points, with Emalee Chaisson and Mia Corish scoring a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 and Kasey Gibbons and Ellie Gelinas winning 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2.

Amherst 4, Pope Francis 1 – Sofia DaSilva-Askew (6-2, 6-2), Emma Learned-Miller (6-0, 6-0) and Mahima Ganesan (6-0, 6-0) swept singles matches for the Hurricanes.

Janaki Ewoton and Elena Ruíz cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Track & field

Frontier 117, Pioneer 25 — Jack Storm won the triple jump (39-5), long jump (18-2.5) and 100 (11.2) while Aiden Dredge took the javelin (152-6) and 200 (23.6) in the Redhawks’ triumph on Monday against the Panthers in South Deerfield. 

Other winners for Frontier were Alex Schreiber in the discus (118-2), Luke Howard in the high jump (5-8) and mile (5:36.1), Adrien Pazmandy in the pole vault (10-6) and 400 hurdles (65.4), Noah McMillan in the 110 hurdles (20.8), Evan Hedlund in the 800 (2:02) and Hengxi Yue in the 2 mile (11:43.8). The Redhawks won the 4x100 (46.3) and 4x400 (3:56.2) relays. 

Frontier 114, Pioneer 31 — Lilly Novak won the shot (26-11) and discus (94-7) while Nicole Plasse took the long jump (14-6.5) and 800 (2:35.7) and Hannah Davis won the triple jump (31-7.25) and 100 hurdles (17.4), helping the Redhawks pick up a victory over the visiting Panthers on Monday. 

Other Frontier winners were Elsa Brown in the pole vault (7-6), Rylan Waskiewicz in the 100 (13.0) and 200 (28.8), Leah Gump in the mile (5:51.2), Maddie Antes in the 400 hurdles (73.6) and Sylvie DiBartolomeo in the 2 mile (12:29.7). The Redhawks won the  4x100 (54.1) and 4x400 (4:25) relays. 

Boys volleyball

Belchertown 3, Veritas Prep Charter 0 – The Orioles scored their first win of the season, sweeping via set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-16.

Shea MacLean put down 15 kills for Belchertown, followed by Zach Dragon with nine, Brian Burns with seven and Noah Yankson with six. Rainer Kristensen racked up 29 assists, and Colin Mullin amassed 16 digs.

Late weekend results

Baseball

Wahconah 5, Hampshire 1 — The Raiders held a 1-0 lead through five innings, but three Hampshire errors in the sixth inning and a two-run single in the seventh helped Wahconah to victory on Saturday. Hampshire’s Drew Thompson struck out nine  in six innings of work.

Softball

Easthampton 16, Wahconah 14 — More than half of the Eagles’ runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning, as a nine spot put them in front of Wahconah for good.

Ana Growhoski collected three hits and an RBI while Kayley Downie (three RBIs), McKenzie McCarthy (three RBIs), Megan Fickett (two RBIs), Sophia Faginski and Makenna Slate each had two hits for Easthampton.

Frontier 18, Mohawk Trail 3 (6) — After falling behind 3-1 in two innings, the Redhawks rattled off 17 unanswered runs en route to a 20-hit day and dominant win on Saturday.

Boys lacrosse

Belchertown 10, Hoosac Valley 3 — The Orioles got the job done by committee on Friday night, with seven different players recording a point in the win.

Rylan Queiros (two goals, one assist) and Nico St. George (two goals, one assist) led the way.

Girls lacrosse

Belchertown 13, Amherst 8 — Madysen LePage notched seven points (three goals, four assists) and Paige Magner scored a game-high five goals to pace the Orioles offense on Friday night.

Lia Pikul added three goals while Emma Almeida stopped seven shots in the cage in the win. Amherst suffered its first defeat of the season, now 10-1.

Amherst 12, McCann Tech 0 — The ‘Canes responded to their first defeat of 2024 with a strong showing on Sunday, shutting out the Hornets and adding a dozen goals.

Mars Leonard scored a hat trick, Emilia Luetjen netted two goals and tallied an assist, Thea Binzen scored twice and Kiko Bhowmik dished out four assists on offense.
